IMPORTANT: Check your theme for TikTok’s base codes FIRST to make sure TikTok pixels aren’t already installed on your website. If they are, delete the code to avoid any double-tracking issues. (You can check this by visiting your website, right-clicking a page, and clicking “View Page Source”.)
First things first, you’ll need to get your pixel ID. Log in to TikTok Ads Manager > “Assets” > “Events” > “Web Events”, then copy the ID written there.
If you don’t have an ID yet, you can create one by following these steps: “Assets” > “Events” > “Web Events” > “Manage” > “Create Pixel” > “TikTok Pixel” > “Manually Install Pixel Code” > “Standard Mode”
Once you get your ID, head to GTM > “Variables” > “User-Defined Variables”, and type in TikTok on the search bar to find the related constant. Click the constant, then update the “Value” by pasting your pixel ID, and Save .
Open “Tags” on the left-side menu, then search for TikTok. You’ll see a bunch of tags starting with 009; among these, 01 & 02 are essential for TikTok Pixels to work, whereas 03-08 are optional to use depending on which events you wish to follow. Once you make your decision, activate (unpause) the tags.
After you unpause the tags, open GTM’s Preview Mode to make sure data is flowing correctly.
If everything seems okay, you can now Submit your container to make these changes live. Congrats on your new Pixels!
Once you submit your container, you can also double-check your data by installing TikTok’s Pixel Helper add-on for Chrome.
